Great Southern Old Time Fiddlers' Convention

Saturday , March 11th  2017

 

The 2017 Great Southern Old Time Fiddlers' Convention will be held on Saturday, March 11th, beginning at 12:00 noon at historic Lindsay Street Hall in Chattanooga, TN.

Contest is all old-time music and dance, all acoustic, no mics/amps/PAs.

Admission - $10 - children under 6 free

 Come one and all as we celebrate this Great Southern tradition. Contests, cash and prizes in old time categories - fiddle, banjo, dance, song and stringband. Food and drinks will be available.


Rules/Prizes -
No electric instruments permitted. Numbers for order of contestants will be drawn at random prior to the start of each competition. No registrations allowed after numbers are drawn. Contestants must be present when their number is called to take the stage for competition. Finals may be held at judges discretion.


Fiddle – Prizes – 1. $250      2. $125      3. $75
Old time fiddling and tunes only, may play solo or with maximum 1 additional accompanist. Preliminary round – 2 tunes of choice. Finals – 2 tunes of choice.


Banjo – Prizes – 1. $100         2. $50         3. $25
Old time styles and tunes only. May play solo or with maximum 1 additional accompanist. Preliminary round – 2 tunes of choice. Finals – 2 tunes of choice.


Stringband – Prizes - 1. $200         2. $100          3. $60
Old time styles and tunes only. Band must consist of at least 2 stringed instruments. Each musician may only compete in 1 band. 2 tunes/songs of choice, 1 required to include vocals.


Dance – Prizes - 1. $60           2. $40          3.$20
Old time style dance. Dancers who wish to wear metal on shoe soles must bring a board to dance on.


Traditional Song - Prizes - 1. $100         2. $50         3. $25
Pre-1930 traditional song. 2 minute time limit. Must be performed solo. Can be solo voice or singer may accompany themselves on an instrument.

Order of Events –

12:00 – Doors Open

1:00 – Performance (TBA)

2:00 – Dance Contest

3:00 – Banjo Contest

4:00 – Supper Break

4:30 – Traditional Song Contest

6:00 – String Band Contest

7:00 – Fiddle Contest
